And Speaking of Ultima Online and Music…
…you can now buy the one and only album ever cut by former Ultima Online lead designer Raph Koster again.
Actually, there’s a bit of a relevant story behind it:
Back in 1999, the audio guys at Origin had spare time, and they put together this cool little program whereby people who worked there at Origin could get recording studio time.
In my case, that resulted in my only CD, AFTER THE FLOOD, which features Matt Mitchell on bass, Todd McKimmey on bass and electric guitar, and Stretch Williams on slide guitar.
I put it up on mp3.com back when there was such a thing, and some of the songs did fairly well — the opening track hit #9 on the folk-rock chart, for example. But then mp3.com went away.
Then I put it on CafePress just so it wouldn’t vanish altogether. And then CafePress did away with CDs.
So basically, it’s been out of print for years and years.
I decided, hey, if I am going to write hundreds of songs in a spare bedroom, I should actually let someone hear them. So the CD is back! (Well, as mp3 downloads anyway).
If you’re interested in hearing Mr. Koster’s lyrical and musical stylings, you can find the album available for sale at CDBaby.
Minor additional trivia: that’s me playing “Stones” on the acoustic guitar on the clock radio in the opening sequence of Ultima IX. 🙂
Hey Raph, and thanks for dropping by!
I’m totally going to have to play through the intro sequence of Ultima 9 now, just to check that out.
That would be cool if it had some Ultima music in it. I just listened to the first preview. Is there Ultima music somewhere in there, or it’s just the same guy?
Here’s something that has absolutely nothing to do with Ultima music other than having pleasant chord changes and a decent excuse for a melody:

All the feelings of being a teenager in the 80’s.
It’s actually fairly hard to hear the guitar, sort of buried in the synths.
Sanctimonia, there is no Ultima music on the album, sorry. 🙂
So what you’re saying is that I have an excuse now — a legitimate excuse — to mess around with my sound card driver’s mixer settings?
Or, as Barney Stinson says…
