Ultima 5 Main Theme Renditions
To celebrate the release of Ultima 5 on Good Old Games today, it seems fitting to feature a couple of different renditions of the moody, haunting title theme from the game.
Here’s an official version, the Apple II port’s title theme played back on a MIDI card. As you can well expect, it’s awesome.
And here, from the fan side of things, is a rockin’ great version of the theme on electric guitar:
And returning to officialdom, here’s the theme from the Amiga port of the game:
(hat tip: Sergorn Dragon)
The Amiga Theme is very nice, but alas… it’s the ONLY music playing through the entirety of the game.
Which is really a shame, because the original Ultima V music with the Amiga music processor… boy that would have sounded awesome!
No mention of the Lazarus version (which is the first thing I thought of when you said “one unofficial”)?
Sslaxx:
I’m thinking of covering the remakes in a separate post, going game by game. (Lazarus might get its own post; I haven’t decided yet.)
For now, I’m just hammering away at the Internet to see what can be found in the way of homages and informative media.
There are a couple of Ultima music remixes over at OCRemix.org:
“Trollbash” http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00044/ (Ultima IV)
“Gates of Creation” http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00810/ (Ultima VI)
There are also some that were based on Ultima Online music. Search the site for “ultima”.
I must admit, I too was hoping to see the Lazarus renditions of some of Ultima V’s music and/or introduction.
Heh…well, don’t worry; I’m downloading the Lazarus tracks now.
Of course, getting all of the MP3s uploaded into the media manager will take a while. Hopefully I can get a post up tonight, with the hour or so I have left.
@Sergorn: and that’s why it is still on my mind after all theses years. Played hour after hour an never turned the volume down. Sometime when it’s dark an quiet i can still hear it, like from a distance. 🙂
But of course you are right. The Amiga had a very good music processor and could have done even better.
