Back to Roots: Transportation and a Better Renderer

A few weeks ago, Fearyourself announced that he had nearly finished working on implementing transportation (of all sorts) in his Ultima-inspired tile-based RPG game engine, Back to Roots. He even posted a pair of videos to demonstrate his progress:

Fight monsters, shoot cannons, enjoy!

Raise the sails!

Support for multiple transports and hull damage came next:

How long would it take to sink a frigate with a slingshot?

This evidently required him to re-think how he had been handling object implementations in the game, at least somewhat.

Just after the start of September, he announced that transportation was fully implemented, and a week later posted another video demonstrating how the engine handles sea monsters, pirates, and whatever else the game throws at you in the way of encounters:

FIGHT!

Most recently, he has been working on fixing the game’s renderer, and of course has posted one more video demonstrate the improvement in how the game looks with the changes he has made:

That do look pretty.

As usual, I’m just floored by the pace Fearyourself is able to maintain when working on Back to Roots. I am very much looking forward to playing the engine’s tech demo, whenever it gets released.

Thanks for the support :-). I actually tried last night to see if the U4 port would support the frigates without any issues. It didn’t take long and it also works :-).

The last thing I might add which is in the same vein is that the ennemies can fire cannons at you. If I recall: pirate boats and certain sea dragons can, that’s it, right?

That (hopefully) is the last step for the technical side of things,
