Forgotten World: Bug Tracking Help Needed!
Iceblade sent me an email outlining some assitance he needs from the Ultima fan community:
I will be needing some help from the community to figure out what common denominators cause three major bugs.
I need system specs and view distances as well as any additional details regarding the crash/bug.
View distances are found in the options.ini file with the titles: FarClippingPlaneDistance and MiddleClippingPlaneDistance.
The major bugs/crashes are the following:
* First is the common problem with the Sigil and Rune remaining in the air after cleansing. I really need some more precise details about what causes this.
* Second is the major crash bug with Tydus where when Tydus shows you the supposed location of the Staff of Wisdom, the game will crash seconds later.
* Third is the major crash problem when piloting Raven’s Bird using the bird’s eye mode.
I will need a lot of data to get a clearer picture of the problem. Thanks for your assistance.
So, if you still have your copy of Ultima 9 kicking around, consider installing the latest Forgotten World patch, and keep an eye out for these bugs! If you encounter them, record your details and report them to the Forgotten World team!
Just reminding of Moonglow on my last playthrough gave me nightmare. It actually went fartehr than that for me: it basically corrupted saves as well, leading to saves that would crash as soon as they were loaded.
The only thing I can be sure about the Moonglow and Ship travel is that putting the clipping plane to the minimum solved the issue in both cases.
What was your processor and video card?
Admittedly, the problem does seem to be entirely based around system specs and the game’s rasterizers.
Core 2 Duo E8400 3Ghz and an ATI Raddeon HD5770
There’s still the full report of my moonglown woes at my Ultima blog
i only need the forgotten world patch to test this, right?
and i also remenbered that bug that hapens in the bridge that connects the blacksmith and the bow shop in britain. the stoll , disapears when you are near it, but if you are far from the stoll , he apears again, and if you try to seat on it , the game craches
Uh, Hey guys. I think I just found a really good fix for the Floating Sigil/Rune problem:
Set the Middle Clipping Plane to 5000. You will probably want to set the Far Clipping Plane to 5000 or greater, but I this appears to have no impact.
I would like a few people to test this out before I make a larger announcement.
In Options.ini, you will find the following: replace your current Clipping Plane Distances with those below.
[Performance]
; Clipping planes
FarClippingPlaneDistance=6000
MiddleClippingPlaneDistance=5000
PS Greater values are fine as well from what limited testing I’ve done.
I must admit finding this simple solution to be very strange not only that it hasn’t been found well well well….*more wells* …. before now, but also at how anybody could not have this problem in the early days when this clipping distances would destroy performance.
good finding
I play with
FarClippingPlaneDistance=15000
MiddleClippingPlaneDistance=10000
so i will not have problems 🙂
