xu4: More Minor Updates, Swanky New High-Resolution Tiles!
Darren Janeczek of the xu4 team has posted some additional news about the improvements to xu4 that the team have continued to make. Team member Trenton made some corrections to the game’s sleep timer, resulting in better responsiveness overall and specific improvements to animation effects and their timing.
In other words: it looks better when cannons fire, now.
The big news, though, is the official reveal of the “new” tileset (that’s actually what it’s called in their SVN repository), an upgrade and modification of the existing “Hires” tileset for Ultima 4. Here are some samples:

If the iOS version of the game ever gets published officially, here’s hoping this tileset gets bundled with it!

Too bad they did not put their tiles in the same 16 * 16 tile matrix we generally see. I’ll have to try to play with it to make it work under my engine though it will be interesting.
Very nicely done! It should look even nicer with the animations.
Too bad it crashes when I initiate a new game and get to the gypsy tarot reading. (crashes just before opening the first choice). But with my already started game, it works like a charm.
