Darren Janeczek from the xu4 project team sent me a handful of additional screenshots of Wiltshire Dragon’s EGA graphics update for Ultima 4:

At the pub.

The Codex symbol.

A shrine.

The floor is lava!

Indoors again.
He also included a few additional screenshots of Wiltshire Dragon’s PARTY.EXE utility (included with the graphics update), which allows you to select which icon is used to represent the Avatar in-game:

Starting the utility.
[singlepic id=1174 w=320 h=200 float=center]
Walking around.
[singlepic id=1175 w=320 h=200 float=center]
Touch an inhabitant of this realm to assume its form!
[singlepic id=1176 w=320 h=200 float=center]
It is...a rather large realm.

Exit via the silver moongate!
Like Darren, I quite agree that the Avatar icon which looks like the depiction of the Avatar from the game’s box cover is probably the best option available. It’s odd, then, that Wiltshire opted not to include this icon in the available options in his VGA version of the utility.

What graphics does the original XU4 use? VGA?
The tiles look really nice, better than the VGA tiles even. The shrine image leaves a lot to be desired though, it’s just a dithered mess.
You mean the Ankh? I agree.
xu4 can use the original DOS EGA, Wiltshire’s VGA, and a mysterious Higher Resolution tileset
Soon I will add this alternative EGA as an option.
Under the hood I’m slowly working toward better graphics set customization. Perhaps even a tool that makes it easy to mix & match.
