What Do We Have Here?

Sslaxx sent me a tweet to bring this video to my attention:

So...Ultima 9 machinima, then?

I’m honestly not sure what to make of it. The music is a bit sub-par, and the video consists entirely of text — either credits, or transcriptions from the game documents — but it looks to me like a preview (or introduction) to an Ultima 9 machinima. (For those of you who don’t know, machinima is basically a movie or short film made with a computer game. Red vs. Blue is a good example.)

If so…that’s kind of exciting, actually. But as yet, of course, we’ve nothing to go on, apart from this one video. I’ve subscribed to their YouTube channel, so hopefully there will be more news to report soon!

    *BIG QUESTION MARK*

Not really sure what to make of this, myself. I guess I’ll need to check out Red and Blue to get an idea of what to expect.

It will be interesting to see what if any changes to the overall plot they (he) make(s). I know Machinima don’t have follow the game’s canon or storyline very closely.

    It feels very SNES.

Heh, a Final Fantasy VI-style machinima retelling maybe? That’d be amusing!

Sub-par music, WtF? It’s pretty decent by standards outside of Hans Zimmer. Very reminiscent of the early Wing Commander MT-32 scores, actually. Easy to criticize, but difficult to create.

It’s not awful music, but it doesn’t rise to the level of the equivalent track on the Ultima 9 soundtrack.

Which, by the way…do you have that in your collection?

Reminds me a bit of this:

I don’t, although it’s on the way at your prompting at 320 kbps MP3 with tags. I’d have preferred FLAC but it was the first one to come up and looked good.

I still think VI and VII were great on the MT-32, CM-32L, LAPC-1, etc.

To me the music sounds like it’s from Battlerstar Galactica (circa 1978)… and from the sound of music, everything in Britannia is fine and it’s going to be alright 😉

Catering provided by: Best Bagels in Town, Fraternity Chinese Takeout, Nirchi’s Pizza & Wings, Price Chopper Bakery, Sonic Drive-in, and The Spot Restaurant?

    Strange.

This looks like a one man band project to me… and I agree with Darren. Very SNES’sh…
