Stones, In Minecraft

Someone who goes by the online handle wtfs00p has built himself an area in the smash hit indie game Minecraft which uses the game’s sound-making noteblocks to implement Stones, the classic Ultima tune. As you progress through the area and past each noteblock, a note of Stones is played; playback speed is determined by how quickly you move through the area.

Stones! With blocks!

It’s not a perfect re-recreation of the piece, given the inherent limitations of Minecraft, but it’s still a darn cool effort.

Oh, and he’s using — fittingly — one of the Ultima-themed texture packs in the video. Get those here!

That reminds me, I’ve got an updated version of my texture pack that I’ll need to send to you.

Need to check it works fine with MineCraft 1.5 though, so it might not be until after the weekend.

Also, Stones has to be one of my favourite bits of game music.

I believe you have my email, so just drop me a note and a ZIP file when you have that finished, Andy. I’d be glad to post an update.
