Crytek considers releasing a CryEngine-based alternative to the UDK
Epic Games’ Unreal Development Kit is something of a sweet deal for both aspiring developers and those who just want to mess around with a game engine. You get a complete, fully-featured editing environment for Unreal Engine 3 (plus a collection of bundled assets) for free, and you can build whatever you like with it free from any restrictions. If you want to release what you build for free…hey, Epic’s cool with that (just don’t put ads on your website). If you want to charge for your game, Epic’s cool with that too…you pay them a $99 licensing fee and you’re free to sell your wares (though if you somehow manage to make more than $50,000, they’ll ask for a cut).
And now it looks like CryTek are considering releasing something similar based on their system-humbling CryEngine. That, I think, would be interesting to see.
Battlefield 3: you probably need a better graphics card
Just…wow:
DICE has a hit on their hands, I think.
I…don’t understand this marketing:
Drop me a clue in the comments, if you’ve got one.
Tonight’s post brought to you by samurai:
That may be the worst sniper of all time. I appreciate the abrupt transition to DnB, though no actual drums or bass were dropped.
He did nail a guy in the first video, though he had the element of surprise then. Guess he doesn’t do as well under pressure.
The IE9 ad is non sequitur cuteness overload. Neat.
I really don’t care about Battlefield 3, but perhaps they’ll use that engine for Bad Company 3.
Battlefield 2 was the pinnacle of the series, as far as I’m concerned. I enjoyed Bad Company 2, but it felt very consoley.
Speaking of samurai, I watched Yojimbo the other day and just started Sanjuro last night. Great stuff!
I don’t care about BF1&2 because they’re basically multiplayer game.
Bad Company has a solid single player campain though, and most importantly a very tongue-in-cheek atmosphere/plot reminiscent of Kelly’s Heroes and Three Kings. So it was fun and solid and one of the rare “War FPS” I’ve enjoyed.
In any case Multiplayer FPS hold no interest to me, which is why Battlefield 3 feels “meh” to be.
