Sanctimonia Test Video

Kevin Fishburne sent along this video of his work-in-progress online game (and game engine) Sanctimonia, which demonstrates how the game will render water and terrain, and how the camera follows the player around.

Player character graphics not included.

He notes that as yet, the alpha-channeled transition tiles which allow textures to seamlessly merge have not been fully implemented, and also reports that the water ripples need additional work. That said, what can be seen here is very promising; the apparent scale of the world (in particular) is phenomenal. The textures are also pretty great.

Looks like he is making nice progress. I’m not sure I like the look of the textures though, they look like photographs to me. I know he said he wasn’t finish with them but It sounded like he was refering to the tile transition textures and not the textures themselves.

The camera scrolls quite smoothly and I like the water effects.

I tried creating my own tile based game once and I realize how much work it is, so I will keep my eye on this one.

  2. Yeah, I’m not finished with either the landscape textures or the transition tiles. In the end however all the graphics (landscape layers, objects, vegetation, people, animals) will be taken from photographs of either models or the real thing. The highly-pixelated Blackthorn throws things off a bit… He’s temporary too. 😉
