Exult is now available for the Xbox 360

Not that I can post a download; as Xbox Scene handily explains, the download is actually illegal for various reasons having to do with the licensing of the official Microsoft Xbox SDK. Apparently, news of this project’s illegality is somewhat outdated, and the developer has since removed any association it had with the Microsoft Xbox SDK; it is now based solely off of a fork of Colourless Dragon’s modified version of Exult, which saw the removal of SDL_Mixer.

Now with Ultima 7.

However, I figure I can at least mention to all you Dragons and Dragonettes that someone has successfully ported Exult (and, thus, Ultima 7) to the Xbox 360. Exult360 isn’t officially available for download anywhere, and its Google Code homepage is ludicrously sparse. But apparently it’s out there now.

And apparently, it works pretty well, although I would wonder how one would go about copying the game data files onto one’s Xbox. I’m sure it can be done, but I’m utterly ignorant as to what process one would use.

I gave the link not too long ago in our faq 😉 http://exult.sourceforge.net/faq.php#what_platforms

Eviltar has been chatting with us on #exult. So to my knowledge at least the ms sdk thing is out of the way since they/he are/is not using it. You still need a hacked Xbox360…
Also the code on the google code page might be outdated. Eviltar had based his port on a branch where colourless got rid of sdl_mixer and didn’t see that this branch had been merged with exults trunk. Eviltar has switched to working on the trunk but hasn’t updated the googlecode svn… Mainly because his local copy is too different to the svn 😉

Oh cool…thanks for the update. I’m still not sure if (let alone how) I could post a download for it, but if there’s a way, I wouldn’t mind adding something to the Exult project entry here.

Is there a hope that this would ever work without a hacked 360?
