Ultima 3: Exodus running on an Apple II+
Witness the awesome:
There’s really not much to say, apart from that this is all kinds of cool. It’s kind of mind-boggling to think that this is where Ultima — where gaming, really — began, and then think about where gaming is now (not to mention the underlying hardware). But there it is. Enjoy.

Ohh! I learned programming in that machine… what memories!
Manuel: Me too, nearly. I learned on the //e, myself.
That’s how I played it, and he’s missing a lot without a color monitor! Also had a Mockingboard, so I got to hear the glorious Ken Arnold soundtrack. I was hypnotized by that echo-y dungeon theme.
Yeap, I played Ultima 1-4 on the IIe, then moved over to the c64 for 5, then the PC for 6-9.
I’m not ancient enough to have learned to program on a IIe (take that!), but we did used to have these in the labs in my elementary school. They didn’t (at least as far as I know) have any Ultima games on them, but the machines still have a place in my heart for games like Oregon Trail, Odell Lake, and some others.
I was helping a friend remember Odell Lake’s title last week. THERE is a game that needs an iPhone port!
Nah, I much more prefer to run it on the PC with EGA/music patch installed.
You could just imagine how amazing that would of been back in 1980’s. State of the art..Shame I started with my 8086 8mhz back in 1988 and not an Apple II back in 1984 🙂
Gaming began on the Apple II? Wow, I’ll be nice and not touch that trollbait.
Yeah, I know it’s not the complete history of gaming, Reenak. 😉
