The Ultima 9 German Translation: First Patch Released

Because Sir John really doesn’t seem to be busy enough, he has also begun work on a German translation patch for English-language versions of Ultima 9 (e.g. the GOG version).

Ultima 9 has been translated to German back in its days. So with a bit of luck I don’t have to translate stuff for a patch. Much to my regret I had to learn that versions available today, e.g. at GOG and ORIGIN have no German language included. This is why I took some time to fiddle around with replacing english files with their German equivalents. As my first results are somewhat promising, I have packed a very early first patch together that translated all books, dialogues and item descriptions iknto German and seems to work flawlessly with my English only version of GOGs Ultima 9.

Not translated as far as I can tell for now remain only: Speech, not subtitles non-interactive sequences, some graphics and some minor things (e.g. clocks telling the time).
I have yet to test if this is comnpatible with any of the fan-patches (Forgotten World, Beautiful Britannia, Patch 1.19) out there. Version this patch is based on is 1.18.

As an installer and a readme file is missing as well, please unpack the files into /static/ directory. Remember to backup the original files!! Let me know of any problems you encounter.

You can grab the patch from Sir John’s website, or from the patch’s brand new project entry here.
