Apparently Blade of the Avatar Is Being Made Into a Trilogy

I missed seeing the part of the recent Cyber Monday 2014 12-Hour Telethon in which this was announced, but apparently the precursor novel to Shroud of the Avatar — the Tracy Hickman/Richard Garriott co-authored Blade of the Avatar — is being expanded into a trilogy of books:

Tracy Hickman and Richard Garriott have an agent to get the book printed in physical form, but the publisher wanted additional content for the first book and then wanted to continue the story with two additional installments.

This means we will see an additional chapters written for the current Blade of the Avatar and then we will get a chance to dig deeper into the world of New Britannia. As you recall, the current Blade of the Avatar is told from a single point of view, that of the Obsidian Order guard Aren Bennis.

So, we get additional content in the first Blade of the Avatar, plus two additional books which will presumably serve to expose still yet more of the backstory of Shroud of the Avatar?

I am for this.

  1. I am really excited about this. I really want to see more lore about this new setting.

Considering the noveld basically ended with a “To be continued” through a “End of Book I” without resolving any of the dangling plot thread, this is like completly unsurprising. 😛
