The Neverwinter Vault is Down…Permanently?

Sad news, Ultima fan project developers: IGN’s excellent Neverwinter Vault has been shut down, apparently for good. Speculation is that this too is the result of contractual issues with Atari, although no official reason or explanation has yet been offered.

A third party site, NeverwinterVault.org, has been set up to hopefully one day host a goodly amount of the content that has been lost in the wake of the Vault’s shutdown, but precious little of the content has been restored to date.

If anyone has local copies of Ultima-related NWVault content, please get in touch; I would like to get that all uploaded to the site here so that I can sort through it and make it all available in an appropriate location.

The First Age of Update: As has been pointed out in the comments, the NWVault is online again…at least for now.

“We have archive of all the project files through last Sunday. We have copies of the meta data and copies of the download counts and award tags and at least the first page of comments.
We have archives of most of the articles and tutorials. We even have the surviving “top ten” lists (some of which even feature a certain old wizard from 2001 😉

The library may be burning, but the books are safe.

Not everything works. Not everything works right. But the new place is starting to come together.”

  2. If anyone working on these projects, or who has any appropriate mods for Neverwinter, wants to get them set up in the Digital Lycaeum just let me know.
