Bethesda Thursdays

I think I might have mentioned this last week, but Bethesda recently opened a test lab at the id Software offices in Dallas. Local gamers will evidently be able to apply to pop in and give the latest, greatest Bethesda games a go. Testing will be limited to an hour or two, and would-be testers are of course on the hook for their own transportation costs.

Still…if you happen to be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, this might be a thing to look into.

A new Dishonored bundle, entitled The Void Walker’s Arsenal, has come to light. Evidently, this piece of DLC aggregates together all of the various bits of pre-order bonus DLC that were created for Dishonored and makes them available in one place. It’ll be available for $4 on May 14th.

Shinji Mikami evidently wants to bring back a focus on horror in his upcoming game The Evil Within.

And speaking of games that Bethesda is publishing (brutal segue, eh?), Wolfenstein: The New Order was announced this week; it is presently under development at MachineGames. The single-player game is set in an alternate-history version of the 1960s, in a world in which the Nazis won the Second World War.

You can check out some screenshots and art here.

Warren Spector wasted no time in bemoaning the game’s dark tone and its recycling of an ancient IP. He then went on to apologize for those remarks, but not before the Internet rose up to condemn him as being bitter over the failure of Epic Mickey 2 and Junction Point Studios.

Bethesda Softworks, for their part, opted (for some reason) to publicly distance themselves from the now-defunct Nazi regime in the press release for The New Order. I’m not sure why anyone felt this was necessary; non-sympathy for Nazis is kind of an assumed thing, a given in most respects. But…hey, it’s good to know that Bethesda isn’t teeming with people loyal to the Fuhrer and the Thousand Year Reich.

Two different mods for Skyrim were released this week to bring bigger, badder monsters to the game. Enhanced Mighty Dragons and Here There Be Monsters both add a plethora of powerful new creatures to the game, in the latter case complete with their own lairs.

A new trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online introduces us to Coldharbour, one of the Oblivian planes, and discusses the threat that Molag Bal poses to the world in the game. As well, the developers posted two new “Ask us Anything” reply sets to the game’s official website.

And work continues apace on OpenMW, of course.
