Larian Saturdays

Well, Larian Studios managed to make it to their Kickstarter goal, raising $400,000 to enhance the development of Divinity: Original Sin. And with a bit under two weeks to go in the campaign, they are on the cusp of reaching their $500,000 stretch goal. It deserves to do even better, of course; the $800,000 and $1,000,000 stretch goals would practically ensure that the game would end up as a full-fledged modern successor to Ultima 7.

And who doesn’t want that?

Of course, Larian Studios have been going full-tilt in their quest to better-publicize themselves and the game. Sven Vincke sat down with Matt Barton for a “Matt Chat” recently, and the studio recently brokered a deal with GOG to serve as a distribution channel for Divinity: Dragon Commander; you can pre-order the game there right now, in fact.

And updates galore! In the past week at the Original Sin Kickstarter campaign, we’ve gotten another look at the game’s amazing editing toolkit, a bunch of new rewards and add-ons, heard about Sven Vincke’s favourite games (hint: Ultima 6, Ultima 7, and Ultima Underworld feature prominently), learned about the game’s stat system, heard a bit more about that first stretch goal, and have even been graced with a comprehensive look at the history of Rivellon (the game’s setting) and where therein each Divinity game falls.

It should come as no surprise then that the folks at Larian are feeling a bit burned out lately!
