Ultima VI Remake for Exult Needs Your Help!

Two important announcements from the Exult-based Ultima VI Remake today.

First of all, it looks like work has been progressing well on the Ultima VI Remake, with substantial work being completed on the towns and shrines.

AgentOrgangeGuy stops for no-one. He’s been very busy over christmas and new years and has completed work on all the shrines. The shrine’s can now be restored.

Minoc has also been populated with its NPC and all conversations have been converted. The NPC’s portraits still need to be done but the rest is pretty much complete. Work has started on some of Moonglow’s crypts too.

Excellent work AgentOrangeGuy, I’m sure we’re all hotly anticipating seeing the fruits of your labor in the future.

As well, the team is also sending out a request for individuals who are willing to submit articles, historical documents, or any kind of interesting texts that could be used to populate the expanded Britannia of Ultima VI.

We are looking for people to write custom books to be imported into the game.  Here are some ideas we are looking for: “historical accounts” of events from past games or current (u6) events, diaries, treatises, stories, poems and other written things similar to the random books you’d find in U7.  Just keep them relevant to the game, and not too big (about the size of u7 books). All submission are to be emailed to agentorangeguy at yahoo dot com

Looks like the cry has gone out for Ultima fans to show off their literary talents.  I know we have a number of excellent writers and storytellers out there who would love to help contribute to a project like this.  If you feel you could help, go there, and check it out!

I’ve been interested in this project for some time, since unlike Withstand the Fury, I don’t have the same degree of love towards the sixth entry of the Ultima series, with my biggest complaint always being the squashed playing area which I felt made Britannia feel claustrophobic.  I’m highly anticipating seeing The False Prophet in its full screen goodness.

The question is: with both Ultima VI and Savage Empire coming to the U7 engine, who is gonna do Martian Dreams ? :O

  2. Dungy says:

That would be cool, and Martian Dreams is probably my favorite of the three games using the Ultima VI engine. <3

  3. Sergorn says:

I love Martian Dreams too, it is indeed one of my favorite Ultima as well!

If I wasn’t so busy with Ultima: Return, I’d be tempted to actually start such a project myself.

Of course I think the biggest issue with doing a Martian Dreams Exult remake would be art. With Savage Empire you can at least reuse quite a bit of U7 art… with Martian Dreams heh… not so much.

Altough to be fair I actually tried taking a picture from the U7 desert and give it a Red Hue, and it actually gave it a nice Martian looking, so that would be a way to get the Martian Wastelands working. But there’d still be all the rest 😛

Still it’d be awesome down the road if we’d somehow had all the UVI engine games remade with Ultima VII!

The recent post by Jeff Skalski on Twitter gives me hope that we might see Savage Empire and Martian Dreams on GOG. That would still be awesome, since MD hasn’t been available in non-floppy form ever.

I am hoping this post from Jeff Skalski is also some form of teasing hinting at the release of the WOrlds of Ultima on GOG…

If they release the WoUs on GoG, I might actually go and buy the whole Ultima series as a package on GoG (so they need U8&9 there as well, but I have no doubt it’s planned :P) just as a thanks to support this, and this in spite of the fact that I spend hundreds of bucks last year to buy physical of all the Ultima games, including the WoU games.

My S.E. remake will not use any original graphics from Ultima VII, save for certain parts to NPCs because they have to look & function a certain way & some tiles will be similar in a way to he originals (the lab floor & the Nahuatla market & temple precincts.) Even the palm trees will be redrawn even though the ones from Ultima VII would fit in nicely, albeit small.

I have some steampunk sprites & have toyed with the idea of a Martian Dreams remake. For me, it might be easier to do than S.E. since there are less assets to draw (a barren wasteland versus a lush jungle!) Even the portraits would be easier for the most part since the majority of the characters are real people & photographs exist for them.

With Agentorangeguy’s Ultima VI & my S.E., a M.D. remake would complete an Ultima VI trilogy conversion for Exult!
