And Now It's Wing Commander's Birthday

Twenty-one years ago today, Dragons and Dragonettes, we all sat in front of our PCs and climbed into this cockpit:

Unless you are younger than...like...twenty-five. Then maybe one of your parents did.

Naturally, the Wing Commander CIC has a post up to mark the occasion, and they’ve posted some pretty great content over the last couple of days as well which are worth checking out to celebrate this milestone in time. I’m a little surprised that they didn’t do another article-posting blitz…but they’re probably burned out from all the GOG-related content blitzes that happened earlier this month.

Wow, I remember that I was working in a local computer store (it was a holiday job). The boss connected a real good set of audio boxes and had to slow down the 486 (i guess it was one – maybe a 386) via switch to get this game going in an acceptable tempo. I was 15 years old an remember standing stunned to death in front of that monitor… I fell in love with the game instandly. Happy Birthday WC!

I always kind of liked Wing Commander’s predecessor Space Rogue, and how it combined a 3D spacesim and a typical 2D RPG. Fun times!
