An Ultima 5-Style RPG for iOS? Yes, Please!

Dino links to this post on Facebook by Cody Ellsworth, who wanted to bring to the attention of all Ultima fans his work-in-progress effort: an Ultima 5-inspired tile-based RPG for the iOS platform.

He even provided a short video showing off what he has managed to build so far, after a cumulative total of perhaps 20 hours of work:

Ultima 5 stylings!

At present, he’s just pitching his work thus far to the community in an attempt to gauge interest in the project. Judging by the responses on Facebook, he would probably do well if he kept at it. I would encourage you to leave your thoughts here, if you have not already voiced them!

I will be first in line for an iOS game based on U5… but maybe if you’re making a game for iOS, you should offer the demo movie in a format other than Flash. 🙂

Actually, the flash video conversion was my doing; the in-built player on the site doesn’t support M4V video files.

I can, however, post a download link for the original movie file. Give me one minute.

      Update: There you go!

Any Ultima inspired game on the iOS would be awesome. Good job so far Cody.

Now that I’ve seen it: yes please! My only gripe with running U5 on the iPad in DOSPad is the control scheme. I know that this wouldn’t be “Ultima V”, but how awesome to have a new adventure with the same aesthetic, and controls purpose built for the platform!

The controls look a little clumsy.
It’d be better if they worked like Ultima 7.
