The Ultima 4 Map Editor Gets An Update

The Ultima 4 Map Editor was one of several utilities for Ultima 4 that have been on Aiera for years; just check out the disparity in ID numbers for the two downloads now available at the project entry.

I actually never knew who had coded the editor until last month, when Ram Dragon identified himself as the author of the program and offered to re-compile it for Windows using MinGW.

Well, he has a new version ready, which has been tested under Windows XP. It is available for download, as version 1.1, at the editor’s project entry (linked previously). The new version also features some improvements built with djgpp and Allegro, such as the ability to take screenshots. It also relies on the upgraded graphics tiles for Ultima 4, but still requires the map files from the original game.

Awesome news. Pretty rare for the source code to appear from what seemed like long lost projects.

Thanks. I’m working on compiling a DOS version for folks who want to run on that platform.

Wow, it’s awesome that Aiera is inspiring updates on some of this old Ultima software, and getting people who haven’t thought about Ultima for awhile back into the scheme of things.

Sorry, poor communication on my part.

You are correct. The original is DOS. I just want to upgrade it to match features in the current Windows version.

    Cheers,
