Download Upgrades

Fair warning for everyone: I’m thinking of installing a download manager on the site, so I apologize if, over the course of the next few days, downloads are a bit spotty (or outright unavailable). If during this time you have need of a specific download, let me know in the comment form to this post and I’ll attempt to make it available for you.

What these changes will let me do is keep accurate file-size information associated with each downloadable file, and give me the ability to track which files are most commonly downloaded. I’ve never really researched the download traffic at Aiera fully, and already today there have been 56 files downloaded from the site — impressive, to say the least, and I look forward to seeing where these stats will go in the coming weeks and months.

Download links at project entries should work, although to take advantage of all of the download manager’s features I’ll have to go through and re-tag all the links., so I apologize if I render temporarily unavailable something you’d had your eye on, O Reader. It’s a lot of work, but that’s okay — it gives me an excuse to go through the site and affix tags to all the project entries, something I’ve been meaning to do anyhow.

As with any project of this nature, the possibility of mistakes exists. If you notice, O Reader, that a download link in any of the categories mentioned below has stopped working, let me know in the comments (provide a link to the project, please!) and I will endeavour to make with the fixing in a timely manner.

Keep checking back for updates! In the meantime, it may interest you all to know that, for today (Feb. 26, 2008) at least, the most-downloaded file is the Ultima 9 Combined Update fan patch.

    Yay! Go 7-year-old U9 patch 🙂

I just found your site. I am really happy that people are dedicated enough to keep track of all the fanwork.

I got a link for your link section, if you are interested. This guy played all the Ultimas + spinoffs and blogged about the experience.

I had another night a bit too much time and came up set of rules for “evil” classes of vice opposite of classes of virtue. As a huge Ultima fan, I’d like to see someone come up with a new fresh Ultima game…

These classes too have three principles: Falsehood (F), Hatred (H) and Cowardice (C) (from Ultima V). And Instead of virtue, the these classes have Vices.

    NECROMANCER: (Falsehood)
    – Vice: Lie. Lie is to spread Falsehood in words.
    – Unlike Druid, the good counterpart of Necromancer, living harmony with the nature, the Necromancer twists it into abnormal with lies.

    BARBARIAN: (Hatred)
    – Vice: Ruthlessness. In its primitive form, Hatred is Ruthlessness.
    – The Barbarian, unlike it’s good counterpart the Fighter, focuses on ruthlessness instead of discipline.

    THIEF: (Cowardice)
    – Vice: Deceit. Cowardice encourages to Deceit other.
    – To be a thief is to deceit other, opposite to the compassion of its good counterpart; the Bard.

    BUCCANEER: (Falsehood and Hatred)
    – Vice: Bitterness. In time, Falsehood merges with Hatred creating Bitterness.
    – The Buccaneer is a warrior with bitterness in the heart. The good counterpart, the Ranger, has an open heart.

    ASSASSIN: (Hatred and Cowardice)
    – Vice: Murder. Murder is Cowardice, done in Hatred.
    – The Assassin’s life is dedicated to murder. Opposite to it’s good counterpart who sacrifices one self, the Tinker.

    ALCHEMIST: (Falsehood and Cowardice)
    – Vice: Green. Greed is Cowardice act in hunger of Falsehood.
    – The greed feeds the Alchemist’s hunger to seek the forbidden knowledge. The good counterpart, the Shepherd, desires nothing in humility.

    WARLOCK: (Falsehood, Hatred and Cowardice)
    – Vice: Apathy. Apathy is to have Cowardice in heart, Falsehood in mind and a body burnout by Hatred.
    – Apathy drives Warlock to seek power from evil sources. The good counterpart, mage, seeks the power from the truth.

    DEATH KNIGHT: (none)
    – Vice: Pride. Pride is the nourishment of Falsehood, Hatred and Cowardice.
    – The Paladin, the good counterpart, lives to protect others. The Death Knight seeks to destroy all.

  3. @ Grandor Dragon: You’re most welcome. Thank you in turn for the link — I have been following that blog, but it’s been a while since I remembered to check it for updates. I see he’s finished U9 now.

@ Ergonpandilus Dragon: Wow, that’s a pretty well-thought-out system you’ve come up with there. I should see if Dino can write that down on his site somewhere — it’d be worth archiving.

I just made those for me to enjoy, but I’d be honored if someone nice fellow would implement these on his mod/game, based on Britannia (or other Ultima world) of course.

And these aren’t of course complete, but just guildelines to follow and change.
