“Exult” Version 1.12.1 Released

The Exult team have some happy news for us to kick off 2026; a new stable build of the venerable cross-platform Ultima 7 engine has been released, bringing with it many bugfixes and several new features.

Since the 1.12.0 release we fixed some crashes and a plot stopping bug which warrant a hotfix release.

  • Fixed resurrections in SI.
  • Fixed crash with higher compression savegames (save_compression_level 2).
  • Fixed crash with flex savegames.
  • Fixed crash with loading savegames that are missing identity.
  • Fixed crash starting some original localized games.
  • Fixed out of bonds crash caused by some settings.
  • Fixed sporadic crash in Exult Studio when changing the game.
  • Fixed mouse pointers when dragging.

You can find the Windows, macOS and Android releases on our download page.
Please play with it and tell us of any problem you encounter using the Github discussion page or bug tracker.

Meanwhile we were quite busy in our development tree:

  • Ported Exult to SDL3 (thank you Dragon baroque for this massive feat).
  • Schedules are now on par with the original or better.
  • Exult Studio has seen some UI fine tuning, supports higher lift, setting schedule’s z level, 3D bounding boxes for shapes, presets, export/import of groups, audio tester and many other small fixes to make modders’ work easier.
  • Automatic feeding cheat
  • Added a way to create cutscenes using flic animations, sfx, ogg music and voices
  • World wrap was broken for barges
  • UI elements hiding when player can’t act
  • Exult is now fully translateable (no translations yet)
  • De-hardcoded the container area where items can be placed at and the checkmark position. Also Exult Studio controls for these.
  • Many many small fixes not necessarily visible to users but important to the games and Exult.

You can grab the latest downloads for Exult, Exult Studio, and Exult Tools from the project’s download page, or from its project entry here at the Codex.
