“The Sosarian Paradox” Returns…as a “Neverwinter Nights” Module
Several years ago, Melavir Sauin took a stab at remaking Escape from Mt. Drash — an authorized but non-canonical addition to the Ultima canon created by Richard Garriott’s close friend Keith Zabalaoui back in 1983 — using the CORE Games framework.
Work on that version of the project stopped in July of 2021, and for a few years Melavir didn’t do much with the idea. However, starting in early 2025, he started poking around with Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition and the excellent module creation tools it provides. (He also went back and played through Mt. Drash, punishingly hard as it sometimes is.)
As you can imagine, this has resulted in a shift in how the project looks, and then a very positive shift:

Thus far, Melavir Sauin has implemented the game’s prologue and first act (which is set in Sosaria), and has begun working on the second act (set in the Time of Legends). He has also been drawing from the Ultima X: Odyssey soundtrack to provide music for the module, and has even worked out a way to get the NWN engine to tie the player’s overall progress through the story to the decisions s/he makes in e.g. dialogue options.
The work-in-progress version of the remake — the module, hak paks, soundtrack, and supporting documentation — can be downloaded from The Neverwinter Vault, and you can follow development progress on the module in its dedicated channel on the Ultima Dragons Discord server. I’ve also updated the project entry here at the Codex, although I haven’t yet added the downloads there.
