Check Out This Album of Ultima-Inspired Synth Music by “Moonday”

Michael Hewing — who goes by the handle Moonday on Bandcamp — reached out to the Codex to let us know that he has just released an album of digital synth music inspired by Ultima 7:

I wanted to let you know that I just released Ultima-inspired music (instrumental dungeon synth music), that storywise is settled in Britannia and refers especially to Ultima 7, my most favorite game of the series. moonday is a homage to the game’s beautiful landscapes and storytelling. I utilized as a main component the Roland MT-32 from the game to recreate the sonic atmosphere, bringing its vibe and also specific sound of Ultima 7 into my music. Further, the album unfolds as a reverse (from back-to-start) narrative journey, encouraging listeners to explore the music and story in multiple ways, much like discovering layers of Britannia’s lore:

“The land before you, once full of life and promise, now rests in quiet stillness. The fields have grown untended, and the villages stand in silence, waiting for the return of those who will rebuild. Let the melodies guide you:

As the Red Moongate shimmers in the distance, you hear Britannia’s Call once again. In the depths of Shattered Virtues, the Guardian already casts his shadow over Moonglow. Ascending into the unknown void, you enter the Lost Vale, a land once rich with magic, now swallowed by time. Emerging from these forgotten lands, you find yourself in the Great Northern Forest—an ancient expanse where secrets long buried await those brave enough to seek them.”

You can find the album on Bandcamp, of course; it comprises a total of 8 songs with titles as follows:

  1. Great Northern Forest
  2. Lost Vale
  3. Entering the Void
  4. Moonglow Fallen
  5. Guardian’s Shadow
  6. Shattered Virtues
  7. Britannia’s Call
  8. Red Moongate

The album can be streamed online, and downloads are available to anyone who feels inclined to tip Moonday at least £7 (around $9.30 USD).
