Return to the Stygian Abyss is a browser-based roguelike game which casts you as “one who lives the Eight Virtues of the Avatar”. Per the game’s description, the ruler of Britannia — described only as “the Barron” — you are called upon to “adventure through the Stygian Abyss and discover the source of its corruption.”

The overall design of the game is fairly simple: “[you] start at the entrance to the Abyss where you are safe and can familiarize yourself with the controls.  You can find around you a light source, a weapon, and a bedroll, and some food. Each [is] as important as the other[s]. Light sources will burn out over time making traveling the depths of the abyss harder. Use the weapons you find to defend yourself. Bash, Slash, and Stab at your enemies as you make your through the abyss.” Though the initial game was in fact released prior to 2023, ibGoge revamped and improved upon it as part of the 2023 7DRL challenge.
