Moonring, as the developer describes it, is “a retro-inspired open-world, turn-based, tile RPG in the style of the old Ultima games, but created with modern design sensibilities, and a unique neon aesthetic.” Fluttermind — who was one of the designers that worked on the original Fable — has been developing the game for a few years now, so the news of the game’s release on Steam came as something of a surprise this week:

Moonring is out on Steam for $0. Yes. That’s right. It is free. Like, costs nothing. I made this for the love of old-school RPGs and the #Ultima series. I hope you enjoy the world of Caldera as much as I loved Brittania.

You can grab the game on Steam right now; the system requirements are appropriately minimal, given the era of games it homages. There’s also a trailer for the game, viewable above, which showcases its graphics and gameplay quite handily.
