“Ellenica”: Gameplay Preview

The developer of Ellenica posted an update to the project’s Facebook page late last month, showcasing a new video in which we get a good, long sample of gameplay:

Long time I didn’t post an update so…
…here you are the first 7 minutes of gameplay of the actual build.
Still lot to refine but I wanted to show a bit the game running on a large LCD. Game is optimized for CRTs of course and runs at 60FPS on NTSC machines.
The video:
– start the game
– choose the hero
– watch intro story
– wale up, switch light on, interact with items
– open close unlock chests, pick items, read books, cook food
– see menu: stats, abilities, items, quests, map (if you picked it)
– go out, explore where you want, read signs, examine items or pass close to trigger new quests
– begin combat…
and here I stopped as I want to show it in detail in the future

More recently, there’s been news of work done on making the game’s maps more memory-friendly to store:

Currently working on a more memory-friendly way of storing location maps in #Ellenica and this is opening room to something I wanted so much to be in the game… boat travels!

To travel you need to find a map of the destination, and have enough food/water accordingly to the distance.

Most of the destinations won’t be necessary to complete the game but will be there only to give the sense of freedom and adventure.

If you haven’t been following development on Ellenica, and if SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis games are of interest to you, do consider following the project’s Facebook page for all of their progress updates.
