Euotopia (EUO) Adds a Trading Card Minigame
The developers of Euotopia (also known, or formerly known, as EUO) have added a trading card game (TCG; just think of Blizzard’s Hearthstone if you need a reference) to the Ultima 5-like RPG:
This is a collectible trading card game (TCG) minigame that you play inside EUO! You’ll be able to get cards by buying them, trading them, crafting them, looting them, etc, etc. Cards will probably have different rarities. I won’t be selling cards for $ nor selling boosters for $, tho maybe you could buy boosters for gp or xtal coins, etc. This is strictly a non-profit exercise because I just fucking love cards!
The rules are loosely based on hearthstone and the feel is meant to be as if MTG made an EUO expansion set. However, as usual, I’ll be writing all the rules and designing however I feel like. Card lovers on discord already know about this project (has been 4 weeks now of work in spare time).
You can see some of the current batch of card designs above; evidently, artwork can be submitted by the community:
If you want to submit card designs, knock yourself out: requirements for cards are
*You need to be a card enthusiast, and know about either hearthstone, mtg or similar!
*Card design should be complete with artwork
*Artwork must be copyright free, public domain, or have permission from author, or paid for, etc. (all artwork used now (more or less) fits this criteria)
*Card mechanics should be simple/interpretable
*Card should have EUO flavour, but there can be exceptions
Actually getting started with cards in Euotopia is a bit involved; you’ll need to download a pair of files to add to your EUO installation folders (you can grab those from this forum post, or from the Euotopia project entry here at the Codex).
Once you’ve got those files in place, you’ll have to find an opponent in-game (they’ll need to be in the same party as you) and proceed to the betting rings in a city called Nordhaven; if it’s your first attempt at the minigame, the umpire in the betting ring will kit you out with a deck of cards. For more detailed instructions, again…see the forum post.
At any rate, it’s…interesting to see EUO (of all games) add this sort of feature.
