Prose Dragon has created an amusing, retro pixel-art RPG based on Ultima 1 and Dragon Quest 1:

What it is: A fan’s demake of Ultima 1 crossed with Dragon Quest 1 using the amazing Pico-8. Here on the game page you can download it for Windows, Mac, Linux, or even the Pico-8 cart to take a look at the source.

The plot? You play as Loto* and your goal is to save the princess and kill the evil Dragonlord Mondain!

Loto the Avatar is playable online, in your browser, at this link. Offline versions of the game for Windows, OS X, Linux, and the Pico-8 are also available, and can be downloaded either from the project’s itch.io page, or from the newly-minted project entry for Lotohere at the Ultima Codex.
