n-Space and Digital Extremes’ new Dungeons & Dragons-based CRPG, Sword Coast Legends, was released today on Steam. Early reviews of the game, both on and off of Steam, seem mixed; the game evidently doesn’t feature a complete implementation of the latest D&D ruleset, but rather boasts a hybrid system that also utilizes skill trees.

The game’s plot evidently has its fair share of humour and cheek, and I gather that the overall story is a quite competent Forgotten Realms adventure tale. I can’t seem to find too many complaints about the game’s stability, which I hope is also a good sign. One area that does seem to be getting singled out for some complaint is the DM mode and its accompanying editor suite; I gather this is fairly limited (in comparison to, say, Neverwinter Nights), and doesn’t allow for the creation of really elaborate scenarios with fully customized worlds.
