The Ultima Codex Now Supports Social (Facebook, Twitter, and Google) Logins

To complement the rollout of the new Sword & Shield forums, I’ve implemented social login capability here at the Codex.

The screenshot above illustrates what that’s all about; when you come to the login screen, you have the option to use your Facebook, Twitter, or Google profile to access the site. If the email address associated with any of those matches the email address of an extant Ultima Codex user, you’ll be logged in as that user. Otherwise, a new user account will be created for you.

I’ll probably add support for login via Steam as well in the near future; Shroud of the Avatar is playable via Steam, so that kind of makes sense.

Logins via your WordPress.com account are also supported; they’ve actually been supported for a while. If you want to associate your user account with your WordPress.com account, visit your profile page and scroll to the bottom; you’ll find the link to do this there. (That’s also where you can change your avatar, in case you’re tired of Smith.)

The main advantage to adding this support is that it gives you, the users, some options to access the site by more secure means; all of the currently-supported services support two-factor authentication, which you really should be using everywhere you possibly can (if you aren’t already).
