The Retronauts’ “What’s the Deal With Relevance?” Episode Discusses Ultima

The Retronauts

The latest podcast from The Retronauts bears the title What’s the Deal With Relevance?, which they describe thusly:

We talked about games that jumped the shark, games we wish we could love, and now here are games that never really went wrong but faded from prominence.

Apparently, Ultima comes up for discussion roughly half an hour into the podcast. Richard Mitchell summarized the gist of the discussion on the Ultima Dragons Facebook page:

This newest episode (33) is a good one for us Ultima folks as it and Wizardry (along with Sierra games) come up around 20-40 minutes in. (I was playing Borderlands 2 at the time so no idea of exact timestamp.) Anyone agree or disagree? Do keep in mind that in general these guys are Nintendo/Super Nintendo kids and that Jeremy Parish guy is kind of a smug console gamer who hates computer games as he grew up with a Mac during the golden age. I used to get into a number of stupid E fights with him. On the upside while he is still smug and dismissive of our type of games he at least acknowledges they EXIST at this point in time.

So…yeah. Don’t go in to the podcast expecting fawning praise for Ultima, I guess.
