German IT news site Golem.de has launched a new video feature called Golem Retro, which in its first season has been taking a look at some classic games of yestermillenia. The third entry in the series focuses on Ultima Underworld, and considers how its engine and freeform gameplay style influenced later games…all the way up to Deus Ex, BioShock, and Skyrim.

The Golem site, and the video, are in German, so those of you who don’t speak the language will be out of luck when it comes to giving it a listen. But maybe someone who does speak German will be so kind as to summarize the main points for us.
