Mark Jacobs Eulogizes Mythic
Mythic co-founder Mark Jacobs offered his thoughts on the closure of the studio last week. He structured his eulogy for the company into three eras, looking at its beginnings (as a developer of MUDs), its breakthrough with Dark Age of Camelot, and finally its acquisition by EA and its struggle with Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. His closing thoughts:
Mythic Entertainment was more than any individual or game. It was made up of incredibly hard-working men and women who always did what they were asked. As a team, they never wavered in their commitment to making great games. I hope that if this is indeed the end of Mythic Entertainment, people don’t forget the teams that worked so hard and treated their jobs as seriously and professionally as anybody could have wished. I will always remain incredibly proud of them all.
There’s really not much more to say than that, I suppose. The people at Mythic were excellent and passionate people; one hopes (again) that they are all able to land on their feet in the aftermath of this.
