Shroud of the Avatar: Call for Art (Chairs)

Another call for art has been posted to the Shroud of the Avatar forum. This time, Portalarium’s developers need chairs:

I can’t sit! Actually, I can, but it’s not making me entirely happy…

The selection of chairs a worldbuilder has right now is extremely limited, in my opinion, and I’d like a little more variety. I saw Chris mention in the first “call for art” thread that chairs should be .5 meters high, and specifically I’m looking for chairs with no arms. (Simple wooden table chairs is a good place to start)

This is my first shout out for art, so let me know if I’ve missed anything!

To which Chris Spears, the project’s tech director, added:

Also, we’ll leave the bounty on chairs at $10 reward or a t-shirt. Oh, and I think we will have some sexy t-shirts for our crowd sourcing guys. Likely with the Shroud logo and then “I made art for Richard Garriott’s Shroud of the Avatar and all I got was this crummy t-shirt” on it as well.

Stools are also acceptable submissions, although benches are not.

As a reminder, submission rules can be found here, and an asset submission guide can be found here.

I tweeted my sound effect assets @RichardGarriott (June 21st) and have heard nothing. Granted that technique doesn’t comply with the asset submission guide, but it’s still pretty disappointing. There’s probably some colloquial phrase to describe this sort of misadventure, but I’ve neither the time nor inclination to determine it. Alas…

Well, that and they haven’t articulated a need for sound effects as yet. Keep an eye, and I will do likewise; if calls for sound effects are ever posted, you’ll find news of it here, and can try again.

Word. I can think of some reasons they’d miss it:

Wary of “Internet” asset submissions unless vetted by a third party.
Unaware of the submission of assets through unofficial channels.
Improper understanding of licenses such as CC, GPL, LGPL, BSD and public domain.
Not concentrating on audio effects thus not looking for effect assets (yet).
Effects have been listened to but were deemed too shitty for use.

The good news is that I don’t need Garriott to use them. I’d be delighted, but it’d be of no financial consequence. They’re free, after all. So the coins have been tossed, and all who want them may pick them up freely, forever and without attribution. They’re in the wind, as the release license states.

They actually just said that they’re not worrying about sound or music design at all at the moment.

        @Duke

“They actually just said that they’re not worrying about sound or music design at all at the moment.”

Worries me a little. We have five senses. Games generally only stimulate two, and one isn’t yet being worried about. Maybe game studios should force their teams to wear earplugs for one day each week as a reminder of the importance of sound.

In any case, I’ve yet to watch the recent SotA demo, but from the description it sounds crazy awesome. So at least what they are concentrating on is shaping up beautifully.
