Ultima Forever & The Eight Virtues: Wine of Compassion

Two new posts on the Ultima Forever Facebook page close out Mythic Entertainment’s look at the Virtue of Compassion for the week. The first discusses Compassion’s opposite, in brief:

Despise! The counterpart to compassion.

The dungeon Despise has changed much over the years – but has always remained close to Britain.

Despise has played a central part to the history of Britannia. It has contained relics pertaining to compassion – including the Yellow Stone of Compassion and The Rune of Compassion (later the Glyph of compassion when it became corrupted in Ultima IX).

Empath Abbey is also a home of compassion and love, containing the Wine of Compassion. The wine is said to open one’s heart to the suffering of others. Empath Abbey also contained the Candle of Love in Ultima IV.

Iolo is the companion most dedicated to the virtue of Compassion. Did you know that he was based of of a personal friend of Richard Garriotts? The very same friend who composed the song “Stones,” which is commonly heard throughout the Ultima series.

What other facts do you enjoy about the virtue of Compassion? Did you ever participate in the Test of Love from Ultima XII’s expansion “Forge of Virtue”? What is your favorite way of gaining Compassion in Ultima Online?

Okay, obviously typo nonwithstanding (Ultima VII!), that’s not a bad summary.

The second post is in good fun:

Here at Mythic we aspire to live by the Virtues everyday. In this example our Development Director displays some Compassion. How do you show Compassion?
