The Ultima Codex Migration Is Complete
It has been a harrowing week, but to my great surprise it would appear that the migration of the Ultima Codex — and all the other domains I maintain — from a shared hosting setup to a dedicated virtual server has gone off almost without a hitch.
There was a bit of an issue with the Plesk control panel and its handling of virtual subdomains that threw off the WordPress Multisite feature which poweres the Codex and all of its various sub-sites, but this was sorted out quickly enough. Regular posting of content will resume post-haste!
Of course, if you happen to come across something which seems broken, don’t hesitate to inform me.
I don’t envy you. That’s the one area of computing (other than data entry, I suppose) that makes me cry. Everything looks good so far though, so congrats.
Apart from the bit with Plesk, it actually went very smoothly, much more so than I had expected. Not that I’d be anxious to do it again, but it’s nice to know that I could if I had to.
I was concerned early this morning when I couldn’t find the site. It was a huge relief when everything came up okay when I tried later, however.
Well, thanks for your concern. 🙂
The server management software was updated last night, and evidently reverted things to the default “new site” template for a bit. We seem to be back up and running now, however.
Mediatemple’s support people: I really can’t sing their praises enough. Solid team, the lot of them.
