Lord of Ultima: 3rd Anniversary
Today marks the third anniversary of Lord of Ultima, the free to play, massively multiplayer online real-time strategy set in the Ultima “multiverse”. To kick off the anniversary, Phenomic released a Community Letter by LoU Producer Eduard “Eddie” Roehrich. He notes some of the growing pains and adjustments they have had in the last year:
When we started off into this third year, we were mostly adjusting recently implemented features, like rebalancing Moongates according to your feedback, optimizing the UI and general game performance, integrating usability features as well as fixing bugs. There are a few things I remember especially well. One of them is the Fortune Teller, which a lot of people didn’t like when we first put her into the game. However, once we got the video ads in there to give all of you a chance for more free artifacts every day, I was really surprised by how much this was used and how well it was received.
He notes the seasonal graphic adjustments were much more favorably received this year, and ends with a promise of more to come:
There’s a lot more cool stuff lined up for the next couple of months and I hope all of you are still enjoying the game as we certainly are having fun making it for you. – Thanks for playing and have a good time!
The letter goes on to note that for their birthday, they will be giving away item bundles on the Lord of Ultima Facebook page.
Lord of Ultima has taken fire from both Ultima fans, for its use of the title in a game so far removed from the series proper, and the Internet in general for some poor advertising choices. However, the community of Lord of Ultima stand behind their game, citing its free-to-play nature and some of the best player-vs-player combat available in a MMORTS. If you havn’t tried Lord of Ultima yet, start for free by visiting the official website and log in using your Origin account.
