Obsidian Fridays

inXile Entertainment has launched the official website of their upcoming, soon-to-be-Kickstarted spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment: Torment: Tides of Numenera. At present, the site has little else to offer, apart from some wallpaper and a forum-style community that inXile are encouraging people to sign up for…but it can’t be long before the Kickstarter campaign kicks off.

In other inXile-related news, NowGamer spoke, again, with Brian Fargo about Wasteland 2, and the Full HD version of that Wasteland 2 gameplay footage we saw recently went live online as well.

The most exciting Obsidian-related news this week was probably the release…or, rather, the discovery…of actual gameplay footage from Aliens: Crucible, a game that Obsidian worked in in 2008 and 2009 before having it cancelled on them. Also brought to light was this demo reel of animations from the game. By and large, it looks like Sega were trying to create their own Mass Effect, or urging Obsidian to do so…but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The game looked good, and knowing Obsidian probably would have told a far better story than most of the Alien movies did. Former Obsidian developer Anthony Davis fed the RPG Codex a bit more information about the game, as well.

The second part of Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart’s interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun! was posted this week, its principal subjects being Project Eternity and the long-term prospects for Kickstarter. And because this seems to be a trend now, GameInformer has published a wishlist for Project Eternity.

Oh, and the game’s art director posted an update on the project’s Kickstarter page that looked at, among other things, some of the deity concepts that have been put together for the game. Character animations and rigging also come up for discussion.
