Obsidian Fridays
There were conflicting reports surrounding the auctioning off of THQ’s assets in the wake of that publisher’s bankruptcy that came out over the last week. Some sources claimed that the company was to be auctioned off as a whole, all its assets going to one buyer. A quick sale to a prospective buyer was turned down due to objections by creditors. It would seem that a title-by-title disposal of assets is what will happen, however; bidding has already begun, and must be complete by January 22nd. There’s no telling, of course, where — or with which other publisher — THQ’s various assets will end up, although news broke today that Double Fine is among the interested parties.
The release of Obsidian’s South Park: The Stick of Truth seems to be going ahead as planned, at least. Plus XP has a preview of the game, as does GameSplurge. Gaming Illustrated is spectulating as to who the ultimate villain of the piece will be, meanwhile.
On the Wasteland 2 front, meanwhile, do be sure to check out this GamerHub video interview with Brian Fargo; gameplay footage is included. The second part of the interview covers broader topics, but also looks at changes between the first game and the sequel.
Of course, Brian Fargo also confirmed that a new Torment game was being worked on at inXile Entertainment, using the Numenera setting recently Kickstarted by Monte Cook. Colin McComb is the lead writer for the game, and Cook has joined the inXile team…but other than these details, little else is known about the prospective game.
Finally, don’t miss Eurogamer’s Alpha Protocol retrospective, or this brilliant-looking Fallout fan mod that aims to be a prequel to New Vegas.
