CD Projekt Sundays
CD Projekt RED released a CGI teaser trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 late last week. As we’ve come to expect from the Polish studio, it featured stylized violence and a minimally-clad young woman…and it offered an excellent glimpse at the scenery and atmosphere that they’re striving for in their upcoming sci-fi RPG.
Oh, heck…let’s watch it again:
Kotaku had some fun with the slow-motion bits.
Perhaps more interesting, though, was the hidden message in the trailer, which announced that we’d see news from them next month in the form of the revelation of an open world, “dark fantasy” RPG that people seem certain will be The Witcher 3.
Some background details for Cyberpunk 2077 were also released, and both the project lead and lead writer gave interviews in which they stressed that CD Projekt RED would be trying their damndest to stay as close to the pen-and-paper RPG roots of the game. (A feature allowing players to print off their character sheet from the game was confirmed, by the way.)
Oh, and it may interest some of you to know that The Witcher 2 has sold over 2 million copies. Although I think it has been pirated more times than that.
Print off your character sheets, eh? Well, that’s an interesting one! So they’re sticking close enough to the base ruleset to be able to do that, good if so.
CD Projekt Red currently resides on the pedestal that was once reserved for Bioware and before them Origin Systems. After playing The Witcher 2, it’s clear that they just ‘get it’.
