Bethesda & All the Rest-a Thursdays
I meant to post yesterday…honestly, I did. Alas, things took a turn for the “that didn’t happen”, which is why it’s time for another kit-bash of a round-up article.
There’s been a handful of screenshot collections released of late, showing off different aspects of the game. And it sounds like the game will be massive: the PC version will come on 3 discs. And naturally, more gaming news outlets have listed it amongst their most-wanted 2013 releases: Destructoid, 1UP, and PC Gamer most notably.
Also, be sure to check out this massive Polygon feature on Ken Levine, which reveals all sorts of interesting details about the creative mind at the head of Irrational Games.
Oh, and later this month, you’ll be able to buy the first two BioShock games as part of the Ultimate Rapture Edition. Which I think will be exclusive to Xbox and PlayStation 3…for around $30. Oh, and someone has finally gone and made Rapture, the setting of the first BioShock, in Minecraft. Of course.
PC Gamer are also pretty stoked for Neverwinter, for what it’s worth. GameInformer also has some coverage of it, and both GameBanshee and Massively have screenshots available. Massively also has some details on the Great Weapon Fighter character class.
ScienceFiction.com, of all sites, chose to mourn the passing of 38 Studios and the Amalur franchise in their 2012 gaming post-mortem. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s not exactly a science fiction game, you know? Meanwhile, over at Reason, there’s a piece up about Curt Schilling, crony capitalism, and the studio’s downfall which is worth a read.
Forbes, for their part, listed Reckoning as one of 2012’s most disappointing games. And Massively have posted a video retrospective of the studio and the “star-struck legislators” that set up the loan that ultimately brought it crashing down.
The ArcheAge open beta is underway across the Pacific, and videos of dungeons, markets, and more have made their way to the Internet. It was also confirmed this week that the game will launch with a subscription model…but note the lack of permanence in that phrasing.
And to round out the Wednesday content…EuroGamer has an article up about the “deleted scenes” of Deus Ex, at least one Kotaku editor felt that Legend of Grimrock was one of the best games in 2012, and Windows 8 may be causing issues with Torchlight 2’s DRM.
On the Bethesda front, someone has come up with some amusing Dishonored-themed LEGO, which is actually pretty hilarious (and slightly disturbing). And another group of fans have put together an actually quite decent Skyrim-themed short film.
The big news for this week, though, is a tweet from the voice actor for Three Dog, suggesting that fans of the Fallout series can expect to see more of the character in the future. Could Fallout 4 be in the works? It does actually seem rather likely…Sergorn Dragon has pointed out to me more than a few times that Bethesda likely didn’t develop the Creation engine for use in just one game.
Forbes, for their part, have proposed three things they’d like to see change in Fallout 4…feel free to sound off with your own thoughts on the matter below.
The Forbes writer must not have played any of the original Fallout games. Many of the things he’s asking for or claiming ‘we have never seen’ can be found in them. Also, he would know that the ‘V.A.T.S.’ battle system comes from those games and millions of Fallout fans (including me) would cry fowl were it removed. I like it fine the way it is – present but optional.
