Ultima Forever: PC PowerPlay Article Scans
Akalaupdate: After some discussion on Twitter, I’ve removed all but the first two images of the article from the Ultima Forever subdomain. Once the next issue of PC PowerPlay comes out, I’ll post the remainder of the images. In the meantime, you can join in the discussion about the latest issue of PC PowerPlay over at their forums, and if you like you can even subscribe to PC PowerPlay proper. (I’m still investigating whether an online subscription is available, and will post a link if so.)
The Ultima Codex wishes to apologize to PC PowerPlay and Meghann O’Neill for getting a bit too enthusiastic about publishing the materials we were given. It was…not virtuous.
Original Post: Thanks to reader gianstein, there are scans of the first two pages of Meghann O’Neill’s article about Ultima Forever that appeared in this month’s edition of Australian gaming magazine PC PowerPlay over at the Ultima Forever subdomain.
The actual feature is broken up into two segments, the first being a hybrid of an interview with Paul Barnett and an opinion piece by O’Neill that sees Barnett covering many of the same talking points that he went over in his Ultima Forever presentation at GDC Online.
The second article attempts to explore Barnett’s claim that Ultima Forever is his attempt to tailor the best parts of Ultima 4 for the modern gamer, and his concern that too many modern gamers are unwilling to embrace the more punishing mechanics and lengthy grind of Ultima 4 proper. To do so, O’Neill enlists the help of her five year-old son, with amusing and frnakly charming results.
I love the reference to Iolo, Shamino, and Dupre as a “Brave, troubled, and drunken lot” I think that sums them up pretty well. Especially Dupre circa Serpent Isle.
” We may see a level…. ” isn’t the game in it’s play-testing phase? we should have confirmation on this..
I just hate how it seems like they’re trying to rope in fans of the ultimate series with quotes like these.
Did you ever repost those scans?
Click the link in the “Original Post” section. Both of the images are there.
What he means are the scans of the remaining pages of the article, which no, I have not yet reposted. I’ll do so once I’ve got the last hiccup from the migration straightened out.
