Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen Reaches $4 Million (Updated!)
Obsidian Entertainment’s Project Eternity, between its Kickstarter campaign and Obsidian’s privately-mounted PayPal option, managed to raise $4,163,208, officially. That total has probably gone up a bit, since Obsidian kept the PayPal pledging option open for a while longer after the Kickstarter campaign ended (it may still be active today; I don’t know), but it’s what’s been reported, so we’ll take it as the official total.
As of today, the crowdfunding campaign for Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen has raised over $4 million between its Kickstarter campaign and the Roberts Space Industries website. And with 63 hours remaining in their crowdfunding campaign, they seem poised to break past Obsidian’s record by a handy margin.
Not content to stop where they are, though, the team at Cloud Imperium Games have defined some additional stretch goals:
Our next target is $4.5 million, at which you will unlock 60 star systems and the largest playable ship will be massive armored cruisers! In addition, getting to $4.5 million combined will unlock all of the remaining Kickstarter goals.
If we can make it to $5 million, there’ll be a companion app, even more community updates and webcasts and a monthly town hall meeting with Chris Roberts! Squadron 42 will add celebrity voice actors and have a total of fifty missions… and Star Citizen will match the original Privateer and feature 70 star systems! Finally, a new base type will be added: alien derelicts.
Game changing, I think, is an apt term to describe what we are witnessing here.
The First Age of Update: As of some time this morning, according to the RSI website, Star Citizen has raised $4,185,812…breaking Project Eternity’s record!
