Random Wednesdays
The auction of 38 Studios assets last week netted just $650,000 in revenue, really a drop in the bucket compared to the $150+ million the company owed the state of Rhode Island. Coupled with proceeds from the earlier auction of Big Huge Games’ assets, only $830,000 has been raised thus far.
Hopefully, the sale of the company’s Amalur IP will net a bit more than that!
Also, Steve Danuser, formerly of 38 Studios and the source of several excellent videos showing off just what had been built for the game, is now at Sony Online Entertainment, serving as creative director for their Vanguard: Saga of Heroes MMORPG.
Cryptic Studios will be showing off Neverwinter, their upcoming MMORPG, later this week…in Paris. And Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition composer Sam Hulick was the subject of a lovely fireside chat at The Escapist.
And I actually remember saying something, a while ago, about Larian Studios’ Sven Vincke’s comments about another independent game developer he had met at Gamescom. Vincke’s comments, in short, were that said other developer’s dream of crafting a Skyrim-killer were, to put it mildly, a bit insane. And to be fair, in the general case, I don’t think Vincke is wrong.
But I had no idea that the developer he was talking about was Warhorse Studios.
Oh yeah, I could have told you that. If you’ve been following the stuff Warhorse have been talking about lately it was pretty obvious that it was them.
In retrospect, it’s kind of obvious, especially since they’ve called Skyrim out in their blog a few times. But I just didn’t put two and two together until reading their latest update.
It’s time for a different sort of Reckoning: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/01/Rhode-Island-38-studios-lawsuit/?a_dgi=aolshare_twitter
Yeah, saw that. It’s in the queue for next Wednesday.
Never-ending saga, this.
