BioWare Mondays
The gaming press has begun to react to the simultaneous retirements of Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka, with both GamesIndustry and VentureBeat turning in excellent tribute/retrospective pieces hailing the very different approach to game-making that the Doctors guided the studio they co-founded toward. As yet, no replacement has been named who will be called upon to fill the role they left empty, but the studio general manager of BioWare nevertheless assures us that BioWare will soldier on…even toward a new IP.
BioWare has begun the rumoured server balancing process, and has rolled out several new high-population servers that players can now begin transferring their characters to. Optimizations to in-game shadows have also been made recently. As well, of course, the move to free-to-play is ongoing. Perhaps relatedly, BioWare Austin is looking to hire a monetization analyst.
On the Mass Effect front, Omega has been announced as the locale for the next single-player DLC…and if that surprises you, you obviously haven’t played Mass Effect 3. Also, The Border House has an interview with one of BioWare’s writers, who worked in part on ME3.
Finally, Kotaku has a surprisingly good round-up of things that are known, and things that remain unknown, concerning Dragon Age 3. Forbes, in like manner, has a list of things that BioWare needs to learn — and in some cases correct — from its predecessors.
