JC posted another short update to the Back to Roots project website just recently:

Back to Roots is continuing its massive overhaul. Again, an update without an image or a video because I’ve been correcting minor bugs that have crept up but especially continuing the painful and back-breaking job of moving away from a flat format to XML and fixing all the todos that I had put in.

As I code around, sometimes I take a short-cut or think “This could have been done better”, or I’m missing a minor feature “the person doesn’t say good bye politely”. When that happens, I put a comment for Doxygen (my automatic documentation system) as a todo. I think I had more than fifty of those and am dwindling down as I go.

I’m still on route for finishing end of September I believe and then most likely will be attacking once again U4’s dungeon system to make the U4 and U5 ports relatively on the similar “work-in-progress” states.
