Forgotten World Needs Beta Testers
I was contacted by Iceblade, from the Forgotten World team today. They are nearing a release-ready state for a new patch, and would like a few people to test it. You’ll need a fully-patched (that is: to version 1.19f) Ultima 9 installation to do so, and he asks that any would-be testers ensure that they have time enough to play at least as far as the cleansing of the last shrine.
If you’re interested, just make yourself known in the comments and I’ll put Iceblade in touch with you. Or, as a (better!) alternative, why not make use of the Ultima Codex’s advanced community features and send him a private message instead?
I actually tried reinstalling U9 the other day to find my CDs are dead 😐
That sucks, but at least there is a good chance that GOG will sell U9 since they are selling the rest of the series.
I would love to but have no time ;(
I still have my original CD’s, and the Update CD they sent out. Unfortunately the last time I tried to play this, the skeletons cause my game to crash. Repeatedly. :/ Also I have an NVida video card which IIRC causes the gliphs to appear WHAY high up in the sky when you clean a shrine.
That is one bug that this patch should fix.
Awesome! I sure do hate that particular bug!
Yeah I tried the patch adn can confirm it fixes the Glyph/Sigil bug.
Moonglow is a differen matter though, even if there is a easy fix
The changes I made, though, were at each shrine rather than a more general fix. So any tester would need to check out every shrine to make sure there wasn’t one I missed.
Btw, Sergorn, can you send me your options.ini file?
Just to make sure I am installing everything correctly, I’ll post my info here:
Windows 7, 32bit Professional – Service Pack 1
NVidia GeForce GTS 250 – 296.10 Drivers
Install game using CD labeled Install Disk Updated February 2000
Apply official v1.18 patch available here
Apply unofficial v1.19f available here
Apply Forgotten World BETA Patch
Play game. I was actually shocked it is running fine in Win 7 and I do not seem to have to use any compatibly mode. Also I set display to 1280×1024 – 32 bit (my native monitor resolution), and used highest level settings (like hi res sky box etc…).
@Jaesun I sent you an email with some performance setting changes that might drastically reduce crashes.
Alright, I think we have enough testers for now.
Got it! I’ll try these options and will report.
I’m interested to see the current state aswell. I don’t have the time for playing it much, but again, I would like to see it…have 1.19f installed and working. Loaded even my old, 12 years old savegames…memories 🙂

Send me an email or a PM with your email address, and I’ll send the patch over.
