CD Projekt Sundays
Contra last week, there’s a fair bit to report from CD Projekt and CD Projekt RED this week.
Patch 3.2 for The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition was released. It makes some changes to the game’s trading and crafting systems, and adds a much-needed arrow to the minimap to indicate North. Also, if you haven’t done so yet, get your free backup of one or both Witcher games on GOG.com by the end of the month!
CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwinski has been giving quite a few interviews in recent days, discussing such wide and varied topics as Diablo 3’s DRM and how GOG (who will distribute the game in Europe) plan to address it, the portrayal of sex and sexuality in the Witcher series (and also Game of Thrones, for some reason), and on how CD Projekt RED plans to transition from working on the Witcher series to their upcoming Cyberpunk RPG.
He also talked about many of these same topics with Wil Wheaton at E3. And he sat down with Rock, Paper, Shotgun to discuss Cyberpunk, too. Busy guy!
Forbes, meanwhile, are slightly behind the times: they’ve published a review of Chapter 1 of The Witcher 2. They also found this amusing Easter egg, though.
Speaking of Cyberpunk, its story will evidently be a bit more accessible than that of the Witcher games, and the learning curve will be “smoother”. Which I suppose is good, so long as “accessible” is not codespeak for “dumbed down”.
By the way, this story may be of interest to some. While not specifically related to CD Projekt RED or their upcoming game, it’s a look at what the cyberpunk sub-genre brought to the science fiction literary space, and an argument that it saved the genre in the process.
